Poker is a card game of betting and skill that involves reading your opponents, predicting odds, and sometimes making big bluffs. Though poker has a lot of luck involved, it is considered a competitive skill game because the best players will always win in the long run.<\/p>\n
The rules of poker are simple: each player is dealt five cards. If you have a winning hand, you place your bet into the pot and everyone else must either call it or fold. You can also raise your bet to add more money to the pot. If another player calls your raise, they must match it or raise higher than you did.<\/p>\n
A winning poker hand can be made from a variety of combinations, but most hands consist of three or four cards of the same rank. Two matching cards of a different rank, known as a pair, is another common winning hand. You can also have a straight (five cards in a row, from aces to kings) or a flush (five consecutive cards of the same suit).<\/p>\n
Most games of poker require an initial amount of money be put in the pot before the players are dealt their cards. This is called a blind bet or an ante. The player to the left of the dealer places this bet, and then the dealer deals the cards.
