Poker is a card game played between players. It consists of five different cards and each hand has a value. If one player has the best hand, they may bet, and the other players must match the bet. If one player does not have the best hand, they may bluff and win.
To win, players must have the highest five-card hand. This hand is then known as a high-hand. In the final betting phase of a round, only players who have not folded are left. Then, the players reveal their hands clockwise around the table. This process is repeated until one player has won all the money they have bet.
Each round of betting begins with one player placing a bet of one or more chips. The player to their left must either call, raise, or fold their hand. If the players are tied, the players can showdown and see who has the best hand. When the players get to the showdown stage, the hand with the highest value wins.
The rules of poker vary by location. Most games have eight or nine players. Players take turns being the dealer. Depending on the location of the dealer, certain betting rules apply.
